Learning and observing

Rainy streets of Osaka

Our day begun with visiting restaurant Kiitos at the busy lunchtime. It was nice to see the enthusiasm of the chefs and waitresses guiding the Finnish trainees, as well as the students' eager-to-learn attitudes. As we observed the restaurant's daily life it became clear how much it takes from both, the staff and the trainee, to get the most out of the experience.

In an unfamiliar environment a trainee will easily feel like they're in the way, and even that they are causing extra work for other workers in the kitchen. It takes a lot of courage to take on the challenge and keep up a positive attitude.

In the middle of the busy everyday life it takes a lot of effort and resources to train a foreign student. The receiving organization must be committed, patient and willing to share their knowledge. These are all qualities that Kiitos and its staff posses. This is a great opportunity to expand one's skills and knowledge professionally and beyond. Thank you for giving us this wonderful opportunity - Kiitos!

After the busiest lunch hour we had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious lunch and conversation with the trainees and staff. Our lunches included for example curry, crockets, soup and salad.

After lunch we visited a tourist information and found enough maps to navigate the huge underground mall of Umeda. It took a bit of help from a nice old lady but we managed to do some shopping and return safely to the hotel.

Tomorrow's destination will be Kyoto. Hopefully the jet lag will ease up by then!
