Arrival day in Osaka

We arrived in Osaka around 08:30 (LOC), a little ahead of time. Our flight went smoothly, but understandably we were a little disoriented and jet laged.

At Osaka Kansai Airport we were met with a warm welcome from Etsuko-san and Ohno-san.

A varied selection
At the Ryusei Fukushikai headquarters we had a brief meeting followed by a delicious bento lunch prepared by chef Matsumoto-san.

After a bit of freshening up and relaxation at the hotel we were ready to join Etsuko-san and chef Matsumoto-san for a welcoming dinner of "Shabushabu". On our way there we visited the neat and orderly grocery section of a shopping mall near the shabushabu restaurant.

Cutely packaged mushorooms

Our dinner was delicious and an unforgettable experience. Having dinner can be so much more than just refueling one's energy gauge. As tonight has shown it can also be a truly social way of sharing food and food culture.

The heavenly sesame sauce was Vesa's favourite. Here's an interesting, although humoristic interpretation on the Shabushabu culture (YouTube link). We didn't succeed as well as the young gentleman on the video, but it was a memorable dinner nevertheless.

We are very thankful for our hosts' hospitality, and look forward to what the next two weeks will bring! Now it's time to sleep away the jet lag!
